Cover up those vicious pimples and scars with the right foundation
In some of my past posts, I have mentioned that I have very acne-prone and sensitive skin, therefore the products I choose to use require a lot of research, testing, and returning of the product as well as trying of new products over and over again. It is always a long process trying to find products that will not break me out as much. I have suffered from acne for about 6 years now and have tried many different products, medication, and dermatologists, so I definitely know the ins and outs about acne products as well as extraction processes. Today, I will share about my new favorite foundation I am currently using. Nonetheless, just because I love it and it works for me, does not mean that it will work for you or not break you out. The process of finding the “perfect” foundation takes a lot of time and effort. You have to try and try and try and research and research! Eventually, there will be one that is good for you!
Through my years of experiences with acne, it is definitely more apparent that for acne prone skin, mineral foundation is the least irritating and harsh on the skin. However, as much as I love mineral foundation and its perks, there are definitely weaknesses in mineral foundation that stirred me onto my research for a non irritating liquid foundation. Don’t get me wrong, I love the results given through mineral foundation, but during harsh winters it can be very drying and show the bumps and signs of acne more clearly, which is a big no no! It defeats the whole purpose of using foundation in the first place. I feel like the minerals in mineral foundation wrap around your pimples and scars more visibly. I would still definitely recommend mineral foundation, but I would try to avoid it during the harsh winters. Here is a brief list of some of the mineral foundations that did not break me out and gave me good coverage: Bare Minerals Original Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 15 and Laura Mercier Mineral Powder SPF 15.
As I have kind of mentioned above, I have started to realize that for acne prone skin, using a liquid foundation with a good balance of a hydrator helps to diminish the signs of acne. It is important to keep your face hydrated, even if you are oily or acne-prone. I have pretty oily skin but over the years, I feel like the rest of my face has become a little bit less oily minus my T-zone. Nonetheless, I always keep my face hydrated throughout all four seasons. Finding a perfect moisturizer for you is essential! When your skin is dry, it is more prone to breakouts and irritations. At least, that is what I have personally experienced. I have been using the same moisturizer for about a year now and I love it!!! I always wake up with a face that is rejuvenated and calm from the previous days exposure to dust and pollution. I will be posting about this moisturizer very soon! It is one thing I cannot live without! Let’s not get sidetracked Lydia! Onto my favorite foundation from MAC. I actually had my doubts about MAC for some reason. I had this subconscious notion that MAC products would not be good for acne prone and sensitive skin. However, I went to Mac Cosmetics and ended up finding a liquid foundation I really liked. At first, I went in to try the MAC Studio Waterweight SPF 30 Foundation, but I tested it out and did not like it due to the lack of coverage. I still have some scars and breakouts, so I feel like this foundation is more for people who already have pretty clear skin! So, I was recommended to try the MAC Pro Longwear Nourishing Waterproof Foundation. I tested it out and of course before purchasing, I went home and did some research. There were pretty good reviews, so I decided to give it a try. As for me, I know that the reviews can only take you so far. The sad result is that all foundations give everyone different results. It would be nice to think that a perfect foundation that looks nice on your friend, would also look nice on you, but it doesn’t work that way! Therefore, I hope that for some people this MAC foundation will work for you!
There you go! My Favorite Beauty Pick of the Week: MAC Pro Longwear Nourishing Waterproof Foundation
The reasons why I like this foundation are due to its nourishing effects, long lasting effects, and glowing effects. I do apply a skin cream that acts like a sunblock and helps to regenerate my skin, which I also think is a good combination with this foundation. It acts as a good base. Therefore, my foundation lasts a lot longer and my skin looks very moist and not too oily. Throughout the day, even after I sweat on my face, the foundation is pretty in tact. I usually barely have to touch up throughout the day. For the most part, I do not touch up my face unless I literally sweat waterfalls down my face. This foundation has a very nice, glowing satin finish with pretty good coverage! I do use a full coverage concealer as well, which I posted about a while back. You can take a look at the post here. When applying this foundation, I usually use a beauty blender sponge or makeup sponges that I have access to at home and apply it from an inward to outward motion. The foundation applies very nicely and naturally with a beauty blender sponge. It gives me a perfect start and end to my day! I hope this was helpful!
Here are a few pics of what it looks like. I took this picture during midday around 4pm after a little bit of sweating on the face. There is a little bit of shine, but these are some of the raw photos during a photoshoot that I received. No editing or anything was done on them! The shine looks a bit brighter in the picture, but all you have to do is dab it a little with blotting paper if you do not like the shine.
